I wish I were kidding but....I washed (and yes) dried a pull-up once. It nearly absorbed the entire load water, clothes, and all. It is crazy how thay make those things. Friends....I hope you never do that. It took me a VERY long time to scrub out the dryer. I must have been in a real daze not to notice a pull-up was washed. Can you even imagion throughing it in the dryer. I always tell myself,Slow down!!!
Found in the Laundry
Posted by Danielle Bean in Homemaking on Friday, August 08, 2008 1:32 PM
Rex, the family’s favorite rooster, has been molting. Consequently, this is what I have been finding in my laundry these days—feathers. Lots of them.
I must say, I prefer pretty feathers to live snails, silly putty, beetle collections, and other laundry surprise possibilities.
I can’t be the only one who fails to check pockets. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever found in your laundry?

Probably not so crazy...rocks. All. the. time. You’d think I’d learn to check his pockets! There are 2 sitting on my dryer right now that I pulled out of the washer. Sad, I know!
I have washed rocks, crayons, cars, pens (from my husband), lipgloss, chapstick, money. One of the most recent things was my husbands cell phone (it no longer works). If it is left in a pocket it will get washed I do not have the time to check pockets anymore. If I hear a jingle I will react. Otherwise it is a no go it is getting washed. Sometimes clothes get ruined and that is when I become upset but usually no harm no foul. It really just depends.
Amy - gross and hilarious.
Not so much crazy, but I am forever forgetting the tube of lip balm in my pocket. And of course I never find it until it’s been melted in the dryer and left little spots of waxy deposits ALL OVER all the clothing in that load.
A frog!!! I opened the washer to find a frog spun out along the top of a washer load of jeans. When I told # 2 son what I had found he ask, “Was he still alive?” So I figure he must have been when he went int the washer. Needless to say that load was rewashed.
I think the worst thing thing I ever washed was my cell phone ! My favorite thing to find is change , which I promptly place in a can that I have sitting by the washing machine ;o)
I washed a mini Snickers bar once. It was still in the wrapper...and, I’m ashamed to say, edible.
We probably have the cleanest little Playmobil people and their weapons, lego men and THEIR weapons. Little tiny swords are almost always at the bottom of the tub.
I don’t find money near enough!
I have washed cellphone, library cards, driver’s license. Alcohol wipes, bandage scissors, pen lights and money. I also washed a diaper too.
Before kids, it was guitar picks. Lots of guitar picks. No other guy in a Christian band had cleaner guitar picks than my husband did. I believe I washed his capo a few times, too.
Now it’s bottle caps. My son has begun collecting them. Since my father-in-law moved in with us and drinks specialty sodas because he’s allegic to corn syrup, Zooey has been snatching up all the pretty bottlecaps from Mexico, Europe, small-scale soda makers in various parts of the U.S., etc.
I *really* don’t like finding bottle caps in the dryer because I’m sure the rough edges are hard on clothing fibers. I had suggested nailing all of them to a board that we can hang in his room, but Zooey doesn’t want to pierce them. I have to figure out a different way of mounting them. Double-stick tape does NOT work.
My husband’s military id and recall roster. Right before a deployment. YIKES!
Good thing he loves me. A lot!
Play-doh was one of the worst. Green play-doh at that! I had a whole load of light-colored (of course) laundry. I called the company to try to find out what’s in the stuff and how to clean it. They won’t say much, but did say to clean it as you’d clean for oil (mineral oil). I think it was three or four times through the wash (with lots of detergent) before it finally came out. I just didn’t want to lose all those clothes!
We too find Lego and accessories, with my daughter it’s beads and rocks. My least favorite (although not so weird) are the tissues! With allergy sufferers, we often have tissues. Our newer dryer does a MUCH better job of collecting the bits in the lint trap than the old one did.
I’m a second grade teacher and once I washed about 10 checks parents had written for a book order. The checks were shredded and unusable. I humbly wrote a letter explaining the situation to the parents. One parent wrote back with her new check, “This was the worst case of money laundering I’ve ever heard of!” One of the best things about being a teacher is that parents understand and laugh when I’m honest about mishaps such as this
Oh gosh, I have found my hubby’s pocket knife, credit cards, i.d.’s, money. (that’s just us). Then for the kids I’ve found gum, pens, markers, crayons, lip gloss, Legos, candy, rocks and acorns. (no I am not kidding) and recently a palmetto bug, who actually survived the wash. I am scared of the nasty things, and I made my hubby get him out, then I had to rewash the load! YUCK!!
I have washed so many unfortunate things! The worst, damage-wise, were a Sharpie (left in my husband’s pocket) and Silly Putty (last time Santa leaves that particular menace in Christmas stockings). In between there has been lots of money, lip balm, Lego, roly poly bugs, rocks, candy, band-aids and the occasional small shoe.
