Have you heard of Fr. Leo Patalinghug?
Fr. Leo is the host of Grace Before Meals, a web-based cooking show that is, with God’s grace, about to be picked up to air on television. According to the website, the “fundamental concept” of Grace Before Meals is that “the simple act of creating and sharing a meal can strengthen all kinds of relationships.”
Fr. Leo was the keynote speaker at this summer’s New Media Celebration (at which Popple also performed), and he was incredible—funny, inspiring, very down-to-earth but also drawing us closer to Christ through his words and encouragement.
If you have a minute, check out the Grace Before Meals website. On the blog, Fr. Leo posts recipes, and tidbits about his many travels, as well as reminders of the importance of making time to dine together as a family unit.
Here’s a little trivia: Fr. Leo went to seminary with my husband’s best bud, Fr. Tim, he who was the best man in our wedding (the day before leaving for seminary, where he became friends with Fr. Leo). So in a way, that means Fr. Leo and I are practically related! (Do you see the resemblance?) Not really, but he’s still pretty cool.

Isn’t it marvelous how God calls people to be missionaries in such interesting ways?
In our family, sadly, picnics were the usual once the kids got to be teens. I’d serve dinner on a blanket in the living room with a movie we’d watched a hundred times and because it was familiar enough for them to be bored with it, the kids would talk to me and tell me all about their day. mmm, maybe that isn’t so sad after all!
Around a dinner table they tended to race to get back to their favorite media.

I think that’s very clever, Ann!
And I so agree with the missionary thought—God really can use us to spread the truth of his love in so many ways! It’s really exciting.
