This sounds very interesting. I need to lose weight (10-20 lbs) and I really need to start exercising. I have a huge struggle with willpower and self-control. Maybe this will help. Thanks! I look forward to reading more as you go!
Starting a Journey

A few weeks ago, Danielle shared with me that the authors of a book entitled Your Whole Life: The 3D Plan for Eating Right, Living Well, and Loving God and its accompanying wellness program had offered program review materials.
I’m always interested in health and fitness topics, so I welcomed the opportunity to learn more about the 3D Plan. I received the book and accompanying journal and promptly tucked them on my bookshelf, waiting for the time to be right to launch into the introductory twelve week phase.
I thought I’d share with you a few progress reports as I make my way through the twelve week program. First off, let me say that I am not viewing this as a “diet”. In reading the book’s introductions, I note that the authors are clear about this point. Their goal is to help readers make permanent changes in three life areas: eating well, living well, and loving God.
On Sunday night, I signed the commitment card that came with my book, looking forward to beginning the twelve week journey on Monday morning. (I’m not sure why, but I always tend to start these types of things on Mondays - do you do that?). I like that this program’s nutritional emphasis does not appear to be on restricting foods, but rather on encouraging participants to make healthier choices and to exercise portion control. Many participants in the 3D program are joined together with friends in their church in 3D groups, working the plan with the support of others. I did want to clarify that while it is religious in nature, this program is not a Catholic program.
I’m on my own and working the plan without a support group, so I’m going to share a bit of the process with you. Each day, I am setting aside time for quiet reading and reflection of the daily devotional materials. The theme for this week is “Faith” - a great thing to focus on at the start of something like this! Some of my goals for this week include:
Eating Well - filling out initial assessments, calculating my BMI and keeping my daily journal
Living Well - using a pedometer and putting a fresh flower on my kitchen table
Loving God - reading my daily devotion, memorizing a scripture verse and praying for five people each day
So far, I’m off to a good start with incorporating the 3D plan into my other spiritual disciplines and health priorities. But the first week of anything is usually fairly simple. It’s week two or three that get me, when the newness has worn off and the need for mental and physical discipline kicks in!
So I’ll be checking in with you on this in another few weeks. In the mean time, if you’d like to learn more about the 3D Your Whole Life Plan, visit their website here.
In the mean time, I’d love to hear your comments on journeys that you’ve taken in the past related to weight loss, fitness, and personal spiritual development. What has worked for you? What has frustrated you? What helped you get over the tough times when you feel like quitting? Do you feel that linking nutrition, fitness, and spirituality is helpful?

Gretchen (and anyone else), feel free to come along for the ride. My focus with the program is beginning each day with quiet prayer and devotional reading time, journaling my food choices, and committing to 30 minutes of exercise three times per week. Baby steps!! Lisa
Good luck with this!
I have tried to make healthy choices, and exercise more, because my current 1 time per week is not doing much for me!
I know I would be a better wife/Mommy if I were in better health and more energetic.
My biggest problem is how to do that...really.
I live way out with no family close by, nor the extra funds to hire someone to watch my four little ones. People say, “Oh you must get so much exercise chasing after them all.” Well, yes and no. Yes, I am always on the move, but it isn’t exactly an aerobic workout!
I like the idea of quiet time to pray, reflect and learn memory verses from the bible---but where do you find *quiet*?? (THAT is something else I would love to have)
Maybe I will put this on my Christmas list....
I will look forward to your take on this---thank you for sharing something so private with all of us
God bless you and keep you,
Donna
