Our fun weekend plans are already underway. After an excellent Thanksgiving Day yesterday (spent at my bro’s house w/their 4 kids, our 4 kids and my sil’s bro), my kids & I have taken down all our fall/Thanksgiving decor, packed it away & have started the humoungus (sp?) task of getting the house “Advent ready” w/all our various Advent calendars, Advent wreath, candles in the windows, etc. It’s SO exciting & they are beyond excited...and it’s fun to watch the 2-1/2 yr old run around singing made up songs about “When Jesus was born...” and dance around. My hubby had to work this morning but he’s on his way home, my oldest son is out picking up a special lunch for us and the 3 littles are having their favorite lunch as I type this. ; ) Once the baby is sleeping, we will continue putting our Advent decorations up and I’m hoping for a few minutes to sit down & do nothing...but I don’t expect it! lol God bless the start to your Advent & enjoy the weekend!
Still Grateful

My brother was here for a nice long visit.
Even though he lives close by, I don’t get that enough.
We laughed a lot: he is the funniest person I know.
I like leftover turkey sandwiches more than turkey itself.
I love having the kids home from school and hubby home from work for a long weekend and no obligations. There will be ice-skating. And reading under snuggly warm covers. And hot chocolate.
And you?
What was the best part of your Thanksgiving celebration? What’s your favorite leftover? What are your fun weekend plans?
Count your post-Thanksgiving blessings for us!

My mother-in-law is visiting from Mississippi. She is now able to travel again after caring for my late father-in-law for several years. She enjoyed being around the children and visiting the Russian supermarket, the Albanian burek place and the Italian pasticceria...she loves ethnic food and in her younger days was quite a world traveler. I cooked yesterday and we joined my parents and aunt for dessert. so much to be thankful for--my dad is home from rehab and doing very well. Today the boys took Grandmother to Manhattan and I enjoyed my birthday gift card (from last May!) at a relaxation spa. I had a one-hour massage. Bliss. Now I am going to wrap some presents and mix up sugar cookie dough. I like to start with stars. Advent tomorrow! Hooray!
whoops, Advent is the day after tomorrow, but today feels like Saturday!
I loved my turkey, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce leftovers for lunch today. I always enjoy the leftovers more than the actual dinner. I feel gross now though, I’m not used to all those carbs.
Lady Hatton!! We hardly ever see each other, yet we always seem to meet in cyberspace! Glad to hear you had a nice day and Dad is doing well.
I had better look for my Advent wreath. Hmmmmm, wonder where I put it??? Candles???????? Better check right now!!!
Danielle’s pecan pie recipe. It knocked people’s socks off. And that’s down here in GA where your pecan pie has to be really good to be noticed.
Did that come from that Fannie Farmer cookbook Danielle?
Anyway - thanks so much - I’m no cook - but I just followed the directions (bought frozen crust) and I was embarrassed at how many compliments I got. Of course now I have this higher standard to live up to.
The best part of my Thanksgiving this year was actually being able to eat after a stomach virus made me unable to keep anything down all day Wednesday. I was shocked that I could eat on Thursday, and so happy about it!
And my favorite Thanksgiving leftover is my mom’s pumpkin pie, piled high with whipped topping. I eat it for breakfast the entire weekend.
So glad you’re feeling better, Arwen!
My favorite turkey leftover is Turkey Tetrazzini. We hosted Thanksgiving for 16, then had more family over last night for leftovers. I’m looking forward to a quiet day today.
Aileen,
I’m so glad your pie turned out so well! I actually can’t remember where I picked up that recipe, but I don’t think it’s in my Fannie Farmer book. It always is a favorite, though.
Stay tuned here for a recipe for mini pecan tarts I am planning to post soon. They are like mini pecan pies—perfect for Advent baking!
Hub was home and not deployed--for the first time in three Thanksgivings. Even if the turkey had been a 3 Alarm bird, it would have been perfect just to have him here.
