When Dan offered to make a stage curtain for our recent outdoor production of Cyrano de Bergerac, I happily accepted his help.
I was thinking of something like an old bedspread on a clothesline. Funny. It’s almost as if I don’t know the man to whom I am married.
Naturally, he was thinking more along the lines of power tools, a towering wooden frame, and an enormous green tarp hanging from heavy cord miles in the sky.
Yesterday morning, as I buzzed about gathering last minute play props and preparing for the family barbecue that would follow our performance, Dan was working his table saw on the front lawn, having the boys dig holes to receive the heavy wooden legs of his enormous contraption, and then hoisting the structure dramatically into the air before nail gunning it to the deck.
This was a curtain to beat all curtains.
He doesn’t do anything small, this man of mine. He works hard, dreams big, and loves and supports his family with all he’s got. He provides spiritual, emotional, and yes, even structural support to me in all my wild endeavors. And I love him for that.
