What’s Going On Here?

What could it be that has my boys so engrossed on a summer afternoon? What has so captivated their attention that I have not seen their darling faces indoors for the better part of the day?
I was certain they were reading Shakespeare. You know, my sweet little cherubs love to gather outdoors on temperate days for an impromptu reading of Hamlet.
Just kidding. They prefer the sonnets.
Okay, maybe not that either. This intense gathering is exactly the kind of thing that sets a mother’s alarm bells ringing. It definitely warranted further investigation.
So what are these boys doing?
They are “fixing” their fishing bait. Sometimes a fish gets a hold of one of these rubber worms and tears away just half of it, they explained to me. So my frugal children cut the remaining halves for a clean edge, use a lighter to melt the rubber a bit, press the edges together, and—ta da!—a new worm is born. Eamon assured me he was being careful and had paternal permission to use the lighter.
It’s not Shakespeare. But for a boy, fire, knives, and worms are beauty enough for a summer day.

Boys are so much fun.

I’m not expecting my daughter to join in something like this, but my 2 sons would Definitely love to play with all of the above. LOL
Perfect! I have a couple of little guys here who would love to join in that kind of fun ...
Don’t you just love boys?
This is fantastic. I have only girls, but two little nephews of mine I am sure would love to join in. Boys!
Our boys look for any reason to use fire. Any big boxes that can burned instead of put in the trash are lit up in our fire pit. And knives....don’t even get me started! They own several each. I love the picture, Danielle - boys huddled over their work!
Oh, I was so hoping for the Shakespeare! I guess I’ll settle for worms. Too cute!

THE
LOAF
OF
BREAD
Every work of God…
With it, something brings.
On humid, hot-days clouds,
Let go their rain-drop pings.
‘Fore lady, lightening strikes,
She warns us with her thunders,
To shelter kith and kin
As lightening sometimes blunders.
And crusty, creeks bring rocks
And all the rocks bring slime,
Where little, boys explore
To slip on rocks they climb.
And under babies’ arms,
New lives bring loaves of bread.
Holy Mother brings Our Lord,
Blood-sacrificed un-red,
To feed the soul, which brings our flesh
To earth then, hopefully, Heaven,
The priest, the rock, the Church, the flock,
The sanctus sacrificium et seven.
Danielle -
Are you reallllly sure that there is nothing literary - specifically Shakespearean - going on here?
“The smallest worm will turn, being trodden on… (William Shakespeare, King Henry the Sixth, Part III).”
There are noteable worm references in Richard III, Much Ado About Nothing, along with Antony and Cleopatra, too. Mayhaps the boys twist the worm or, by mayhaps the word? Peace. ~~~mary
