Aloha!
May/June 2008 Issue | Posted by Robyn Lee in Party Planners
Occasion:Caroline’s 7th
Party Planners:Mom, Caroline, and mother’s helper extraordinaire Nora O’Connor
Place:Our back yard (renamed “Caroline’s Cove”)
Theme:Hawaiian Luau
Guests:16 girls, plus a great team of teens and pre-teens to help run the party.
Invitations:“Limbo and leis and fancy fruit drinks / Pretty grass hulas in greens and pinks / Pineapples, palm trees, hibiscus, and more / Come swim around on your own sandy shore.”
Games:“Hot Coconut (same as Hot Potato). Everyone sat in a circle at the ‘Hot Coconut Hut’ and passed the coconut while the Hawaiian music played. When the music stopped, whoever had the coconut sat in the middle of the circle for the next round and got to decide which girl would begin passing the coconut for the next round. Tropical Island Relay. Girls got into two teams. Forming two lines, the girls had to run across the yard to a small pile of items (beach hat, flip flops, Hawaiian lei, kick-board floater, sunglasses, and beach bag). They had to put on all items and run back to their team, then take off items, and then the next girl went.”
Snack Foods:Goldfish, fresh fruit skewers (pineapple, strawberries, melons), and Hawaiian punch (of course).
Cake:Tropical Island Cake. “I just used a boxed yellow cake and made my own butter cream frosting. I decorated it with shells (from the dollar store), sand (crushed vanilla wafers), ocean (blue Jell-O), palm trees (Twix bars and green taffy), and a little hula dancer that Caroline made.”
Name Tags: “Each girl was greeted upon arrival at the ‘Aloha Welcome Booth.’ There she received a name tag with her Hawaiian name (found at HawaiiCity.com). She also received a Hawaiian lei and a ‘Travel Guide’ for Caroline’s Cove.”
Decorations: “In lieu of gifts, we asked each girl to bring a piece of tropical fruit or a flower to be put in their hair. We had enough mangos, pineapples, bananas, and coconuts to adorn all of the tables and deck area.”
Music:“We played great Hawaiian songs throughout the party, which really set the mood! The girls loved the songs.”
