There’s No Place Like Home

Occasion: Lucy’s fourth birthday

Party Planner: Jessica Allen

Theme: Wizard of Oz party

Guests: “All who were invited were instructed to wear red shoes to the party. These ranged from my grandma’s red Keds, to my cousin’s patent leather shoes from her prom, to many varieties of red sandals and socks.”

Decorations: “The night before the party, my husband and I stuffed a pair of white tights with newspapers and put tape rings around them with electrical tape. We stuffed them under Lucy’s outdoor playhouse and finished with an old pair of red shoes. Lucy was so excited (after being a bit nervous that there was a witch under there) to show everyone how her house had fallen on a witch. Of course on our front door we had a sign that read ‘Doorbell broken, please ring bell.’ The table- cloth was an old blue-and- white checkered piece of fabric.”

Activities: “A Wizard of Oz sing-along with the whole family out on the deck and plenty of ‘skipping like Dorothy.’”

Food: Pulled pork, casserole potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and broccoli salad.

Drinks: “We had melted witch punch (a punchbowl with green-tinted punch and a small witch hat floating on the top).”

Dessert:Yellow Brick Road/Emerald City cake” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow ribbon Jell-O” (alternating colors of Jell-O with a creamy filling).

Favors: “We gave out homemade lollipops in honor of the lollipop kids!”
